These Nationals Look The Same As Last Year's

For a minute there, Washington Nationals fans lost themsleves. They'd started thinking that maybe this year of baseball would be better than last year's "limp to the finish line" train wreck. And when the Nationals soared to a 20-15 record, Washington, D.C. began to catch "baseball fever". Unfortunately, it looks like D.C.'s fever has broken.

The Media Argument Is Just Plain Shallow

This past week, I came across an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal that caught my eye. It’s titled “A Tale of Two Disasters” and it‘s written by Paul H. Rubin, professor of economics at Emory University. From the ring of the title, I expected Rubin’s article to be an engaging “compare/contrast” essay on the current government’s controversial response to the BP oil spill disaster and the oft-ridiculed government response to the all-too recent devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. Unfortunately, after reading the piece, I was disappointed to discover that the article is merely another whining session about the media’s perceived pro-Obama bias and its continued anti-Bush sentiment, the kind of journalistic moaning and bellyaching that pops up all-too frequently in the Journal’s op-ed section.

Obama's Legacy Depends On Accomplishments

It’s a known fact that the President has no control over the circumstances under which they take office. I’m sure that Barack Obama never envisioned that he would be inaugurated during one of the United States’ most severe economic recessions, just as I’m positive that, say, Gerald Ford never expected to attain the presidency as a result of Richard Nixon’s infamous resignation. But, oh well; part of the office’s responsibilities include reacting to the social, economic, and political “curveballs’ that are thrown the country’s way. However, merely “reacting” isn’t enough.

The Phillies' Offense Returns To Form

The Philadelphia Phillies seem to have found their way out of their extended scoring slump. In the last week, through 6 games, the batting order has scored 36 runs. That's 6 runs per game, and it's also the third-highest number of runs scored in the majors over the last seven days. But just what is it that the team is doing now that they couldn't do back when they were scoring only 10 runs per week? The answer lies in in how the Phillies score their runs.

Redskins Acquire Jammal Brown From The Saints

While I was at the Nationals game yesterday, the Redskins were busy. Per a report on ProFootballTalk’s website, the team acquired offensive tackle Jammal Brown from the New Orleans Saints on Saturday.

My Thoughts on "The End" Of Lost (From May 24th)

Wow. That was probably the most satisfying and the most frustrating episode of Lost that I’ve ever seen. To a certain extent, I don’t even know where to begin a review because I’ve spent most of the last 24 hours trying to make sense of the ending. Seriously, I didn’t sleep at all last night.

Redskins and Riley Agree To Contract

Mike Florio over at ProFootballTalk reported earlier today that the Redskins have agreed to terms on a contract with their 2010 fourth-round pick, linebacker Perry Riley.

A Bad Week For The Nationals Rotation

I'm sure the Nationals starting pitchers can't wait to put this week behind them. They've pretty much been taken to the cleaners. At the beginning of the season, the starters were surprisingly effective and the Nationals rode their rotation to a promising 20-15 start. They've struggled mightily since then, with this past week's 1-5 road trip being the lowest point so far. Here are some numbers that show just how bad it's been.

Albert Haynesworth Wants A Trade

According to Jason Reid's Redskins Insider blog over at The Washington Post website, Redskins defensive end--and unwilling nose tackle--Albert Haynesworth is planning to skip this weekend's mandatory minicamp. And to top it off, he also wants a trade.

Strasburg Shows He's Fallible...Sometimes

Bet you didn't think Stephen Strasburg would actually get pulled from a game after loading the bases, did you? I bet you also didn't think that he'd be booed as he left the mound. Well, that's exactly what happened in Sunday's match against the Cleveland Indians. But even though all of that sounds bad, Strasburg's start really wasn't all that terrible.
